Elder Jonathan Engle 05/04/2015 Just Checking Up

Just Checking Up

Dear People of Earth,
We´re now entering in the last week of the transfer and today I make 20 months in the mision. Wow, it flies so fast!

Yesterday night we went to follow up with a new family we´re teaching. We arrived at our marked appointment to find their home locked up. Nobody was home. We proceded with our follow up plan, when oddly enough, we felt inspired to enter the neighborhood Seventh Day Adventist Church. When we entered, we were well received, given water  cups, greeted with big smiles and given a place to sit. We watched  broadcast that they were having. Afterwards, they made a special announcement thanking for our presence. When they prayed at the end, they prayed for us. It was a marvellous experience. We discovered that many of our investigators are from this Church. They were so happy to see us there. Almost all of them said they would come visit our church as well and we many of them asked for visits. It was such a unique and wonderful experience for us.
This week I decided to share what is now one of my favorite scriptures. Our Mission President always shares it with us. When he speaks this scripture, it´s as if we´re in an ocean of the spirit as that wonderful calm feeling washes over us.
Helaman 10
4 Blessed art thou, Nephi, for those things which thou hast done; for I have beheld how thou hast with unwearyingness declared the word, which I have given unto thee, unto this people. And thou hast not feared them, and hast not sought thine own life, but hast sought my will, and to keep my commandments.
5 And now, because thou hast done this with such unwearyingness, behold, I will bless thee forever; and I will make thee mighty in word and in deed, in faith and in works; yea, even that all things shall be done unto thee according to thy word, for thou shalt not ask that which is contrary to my will.

Love,
Elder Engle

Gringo Power!

Dear People of Earth,

My new companion Elder Walker has arrived and is serving diligently with me. He´s from Brigham City, Utah and served three transfers in the US before coming here. He´s a great blessing for me. I´m learning a lot of compassion as I help him learn Portuguêse. It´s a great challenge working here with so much to do, but the Lord opens the way before. We just have to keep taking the steps forward.

This weekend we had the baptism of Célia and Daniel. We found them in our first week here in Santa Inês. It was a batismal service that was unforgettable. We had a lot of people there and we were finally able to get the baptism font fill up.

I have to interrupt what I was writing and explain was just happened. As I was using the computer, one of the clerks came up, very interested in the church. I´ve always talked to her about the church when we use their LAN House. She just asked me what she needs to do to be baptized. I saw in her eyes that she recognizes the difference. It´s because she feels the Holy Ghsot that is with us. It´s as Elder Campos of the 70 said, "We are the message. Who we are, that is the greatest message that we can bring."

As I was finishing this letter, she came again, asking for more information, even more interested. No one can tell me this message isn´t true.

Love,
Elder Engle

P.S. Pictures will be sent next week as my camera froze with the computer.
